What is ground heat source?
Ground source heat pumps use pipes buried in the garden to extract heat from the ground. This is usually used to heat radiators or underfloor heating systems and hot water. On new builds the pipes can be laid beneath the ground prior to the building work being started. On land already built upon the back garden can be used by either laying the pipework under the lawn or for the more compact gardens employing a smaller surface area with a vertical network of source pipework. Both methods are virtually maintenance free except for the pump. |
What is air heat source?
Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air and employed to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems, warm air convectors and/or the hot water supply in your home.
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. It can extract heat from the air even when the outside temperature is as low as minus 15° C. Heat pumps have some impact on the environment as they need electricity to run, but the heat they extract from the ground, air, or water is constantly being renewed naturally. |
